Damnational II, variable dimensions, ceramic, metal, plaster, polyester resin
 2023

A closer look at the installation makes us see a structure that incorporates a surveillance polyester camera in a hanger where printed sheets with fabulated statistics stemming from images captured in counterpoint are hung, in this case pictures of a drapes and curtains. This mirrors this aspect of the productive paranoia of streamlining and reducing everything to data, coefficients, indices, machine-learning. The light coming under the curtains (theatrical and scenic element of opacity) creates a kind of linear graph. Linear graphs show peaks, slopes, breaks, heights, depressions and ironically use the same jargon of the geomorphic features of the territory that have always challenged the human ability to cross them on their own foot without certain success. Statistical indexes have the counterpart of putting aside nuance in search of the efficient correction of deviations and do not fully consider marginal deregulations as would happen in Alfred Jarry's Pataphysics (1873-1907)—a science that would accommodate failure, error, exception, deviation. This installation can be read as a set of pataphysical objects linked to an absurd without an endgame, only bound to the total configuration of a ‘non-utensil’ since its use is blocked to us and causes an impermeability that does not allow any extraction at the hands of statistics, repositioning notions such as the public and the private, surveillance and disclosure.
